Principal investigator for HiRISE and director of Planetary Image Research Laboratory (PIRL). He is interested in understanding active geologic processes such as volcanism, impact cratering, and slope processes. He is the PI of IVO, a proposed mission to Jupiter's hyperactive moon lo. Additionally, he studies a broad range of topics in planetary geology for Mars and the Moon.
